EFT Couples Therapist

Allyson Greenwood is passionately dedicated to helping her clients repair and enrich their relationships. Utilizing Emotionally Focused Therapy, a theoretical approach that takes years and thousands of hours of training to hone, Allyson follows a specialized approach to give her clients a roadmap to navigate life's challenges and create enduring, secure, and deeply trusting partnerships. After sessions with Allyson, clients recognize their patterns of conflict clear-as-day. They go from blanket statements like, “maybe we’re just not a good fit,” to knowing exactly the behaviors they participate in that create cycles that block intimacy and connection. Allyson often hears people overuse the buzzword of “compatibility” to describe issues in the relationship as though incompatibility itself is the problem, but this label lacks actionable steps forward and becomes a dead end for clients looking for discernment. She doesn’t view these challenges as fixed personality traits, but rather as obstacles within a couple’s cycle, so she provides them with real insight into what’s not working and gives them practice with tools to actually improve their relationships.

When it comes to couples therapy, Allyson has extensive experience helping partners who have been stuck for years. She’s not afraid to go to the places they’ve been avoiding and help them to uncover the exact obstacles that block them from advancing their relationships or healing their trust. If you’ve been having trouble figuring out how to move forward in a more productive way with your partner, or advance in the systems of today, Allyson provides comprehensive and clear feedback about the cycles that are leaving you treading water and stuck.

In sessions, Allyson uses her advanced training to help clients identify their emotions, and more importantly, see how their coping mechanisms are blocking them from their goals of healthier relationships with themselves and others. Allyson’s trained eye and direct approach allow her to collaborate with her clients in planning a more effective path forward.

Allyson is dedicated to providing an inclusive and affirming space for clients of diverse backgrounds and intersectional identities, including LGBTQIA+ individuals. Using her awareness of systemic oppression and an attachment lens, she also excels at working with those recovering from religious trauma and transition age young adults who are learning to navigate establishing themselves during these times of great social inequality.

About Allyson

When Allyson isn’t in session, she likes exploring new restaurants throughout Los Angeles. She loves watching new movies and tv shows and frequents the cinema at least once a week. Allyson also loves a good thrift day, especially with a nice coffee or matcha latte in-hand.

Therapy Experience

Allyson's training has been through an attachment-based lens that focuses on processing unmet emotional needs that are deeply rooted. She is primarily an EFT therapist, but she also has training in the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) to process trauma.

Allyson is currently working towards completing certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Emotionally Focused Therapy is one of the most effective couples therapy approaches to date. Certification in EFT requires hundreds of hours of supervised couples therapy, which is then reviewed and approved by The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Allyson participates in weekly clinical EFT supervision by practice owner and certified EFT Supervisor, Haleigh Butler, to ensure the best care possible for her clients. Allyson also attends multiple EFT trainings annually to continue to hone her skills and stay up to date with the model.
